INGROWN HAIR AND BOILS GONE WHEN GROWING A BEARD

One of the main reasons you want to consider growing a beard is skin conditions such as Ingrown hair, boils and razor bumps.

I have already published a post about the beard health benefits such as reducing the skin cancer risk.

Ttoday I am presenting two more skin conditions a beard could prevent from ever happening.

Ingrown hair and boil those are the two most common skin conditions among men who shave their beard that can leave them with scars causing patchy areas on the reard if they decide to grow a beard later on.

As the razor causes skin injuries and cuts that could allow bacteria in or even make the skin hard for hair to penetrate.

So what is ingrown hair and boil? What are ingrown hair and boils causes? How to treat boils? And how to prevent ingrown hair? These are the questions we are going to answer in this article.

INGROWN HAIR

WHAT IS INGROWN HAIR

Ingrown hair is a condition when hair grows back or sideways into the skin instead of rising up from it, it occurs mostly among people with rough skin or curly hair.

Ingrown hair occurs most commonly in areas where the hair is often waxed or shaved especially the beard but it can also appear anywhere on the body where skin grows.

Ingrown hair may be associated to an infection, known as ingrown hair infection, in the area of the hair follicle, it may also be accompanied with razor bumps which are small bumps in the skin that develop after shaving.

INGROWN HAIR SYMPTOMS

Ingrown hair symptoms are multiple and quite different, it can be the itchy skin, rash, a reddish bump raised in the area looking more like a pimple, sometimes pus is noticed inside the bumps.

Ingrown hair is often noticed in the area of the beard and chin especially among men who shave the beard. The bearded man can also suffer from ingrown hair more likely in the areas that he trims.

INGROWN HAIR CAUSES

As we explained earlier in this article is the hair grows back or sideways and does not penetrate the skin, now many causes can lead to ingrown hair.

Curly hair is one of the main reasons of ingrown hair and itchy beard problems as the hair curls back before it penetrates the skin surface, generally Africans and Latinos tend to have curly thick hair so they suffer more from ingrown facial hair.

Shaving the hair too short into the skin can cause it to grow underneath it and cause ingrown hair.

The body reacts to the ingrown hair as a foreign object and attacks it which makes the bump where pus maybe noticed sometimes.

Too much shaving can also make the skin irritated and may cause though skin in some areas which makes it harder to the hair to grow through the hard skin.

HOW TO GET RID OF INGROWN HAIR?

Ingrown hair can be irritating and itchy besides the uncomfortable look so how to get rid of ingrown hair? Most of the times no special treatment is needed especially if there is neither ingrown hair infection nor razor bump.

To stop shaving and growing a beard is one efficient way to treat ingrown beard hair.
Tweezers can be used if the area is not infected but it may cause pain, although the medical device for ingrown hair removal can be more appropriate.

The electrolysis can be an effective way for some people who experience the ingrown hair situation regularly, but when growing a beard this treatment can’t be used as it stops the growth of hair like laser hair removal.

Removing the dead skin cells with some retinoid that reduces the skin volume for people with rough dead skin.

Ingrown hair infection should be treated by applying ingrown hair cream to reduce the swelling and irritation around the hair.

HOW TO PREVENT INGROWN HAIR?

The most effective way to prevent ingrown hair which we endorse here in beardroom.com is not to shave facial hair and grow your beard; it will help you avoid the ingrown hair situation.

Use a beard trimmer instead of shaving if you must keep your facial hair short and still you can prevent the ingrown hair and bumps and keep the nice look of the beard.

If you are to shave your beard or draw a neck-line you need to use shaving cream and prepare your skin for the shaving, and not to go hard on the skin and cut the hair in lower level than the surrounding dermis.

BOIL

WHAT IS A BOIL

A boil also known as furuncle is a skin condition where the hair follicle is infected, causing a painful swollen area on the skin, at first the infected area turns red developing a lump where pus accumulates making it look white with red infected edges.

A skin boil can also develop as a result of ingrown hair that goes infected.

WHAT CAUSES BOILS

The main reason for a boil on the skin is the bacteria (staphylococcal bacteria) that enters the body through tiny cuts in the skin, which is why the bearded man is less likely to get a boil since his skin is not as cut by razors as a shaved man.

Immune system problems may cause boils such as HIV, diabetes, malnutrition and many other conditions that affects and disturbs the immune system causing him sometimes to attack the hair as if it was a foreign object causing pus and boils.

Exposure to chemicals can irritate the skin or even products with high percentage of chemicals in it can cause a boil.

The poor hygiene is one of the reasons boils form on the skin, as bacteria is not washed from the skin and grows till it penetrates the skin surface forming a boil on skin.

BOIL TREATMENT

A boil can heal on its own without bursting, but it is more likely needed to be opened and drained, for that it is advised to wait till the boil matures which takes about two weeks to make sure all the pus gathers and to avoid more bacteria is still in the drained area causing it to grow back again.

Once the area opened it must be kept clean and covered, hands must be washed and contouring areas also to avoid bacteria from spreading.

The boil is to be opened by squeezing it using a warm clean sheet that we have soaked in hot water the warm sheet should be applied before the squeezing multiple times as heat helps the boil mature and gathers the pus in the top area.

When a boil is open it needs to be cleaned with antibacterial soap and after that with alcohol to avoid bacteria spread.

Boils that are of a certain size are not to be open at home and visiting a doctor is mandatory.

In some cases antibiotics are described to prevent further complications.

HOW TO PREVENT BOILS?

A boil as any skin condition caused mainly by bacteria can be prevented by keeping a good personal hygiene.

Treating any skin injury especially the ones caused by razors when shaving, and changing the razor when already having a boil as the razor may spread the bacteria to other areas.

Washing cloths and bed sheets and towels of an infected family member, and of course never using his personal stuff.

As we explained in this article ingrown hair and boil are mainly caused by the repeated shave of the beard that irritates it and allows bacteria to penetrate it, growing a beard may save you the trouble and prevent these two disturbing skin conditions along with giving you a nice manly look.

How to get rid of ingrown hairs, boils and ingrown hair infection? now you know the answer.

I hope people would consider growing a beard and enjoying it the way we do, give it a try it would most certainly give your skin a well deserved rest much needed after years of shaving and kepp boils ingrown hair and razor bumps away and get you the nice look a beard can give.
