NO SHAVE NOVEMBER IS IT ABOUT BEARDS

For a few years now no shave November is getting more media coverage and turning into a global event, some participate for the cause of raising awareness of cancer and some don't even know what it is and the rest participate thinking it's a manly tradition.

No shave November is an old tradition but it was used for cancer awareness recently, and it gained great and fast fame across the world, sadly though most people don't know what it is simply because social media has taken it into a sexist event men use to tease women.

So is No shave November really about beards?

THE BEARD IS SYMBOLIC

The beard is actually a simple symbol to refer to men's health in general and it has nothing to do with cancer awareness, some guys tend to make it all about beards and who can grow the bigger beard, making it a competition for the better beard.

The idea is about donations, donating what was supposed to be spent on grooming and shaving to the cancer foundations, and the idea itself is great since you don't really have to give much and you get to participate in a global event and show your support just by giving money you would have spent on razors to help others and you still get away with the beard if you are not used to grow it.

DID SOCIAL MEDIA HARM NO SHAVE NOVEMBER

If you look back to how social media has introduced no shave November to people around the world you would agree that it did more harm than good, it was taken out of context and spread as a competition and sexist jokes and memes all around the media, nobody is talking about cancer anymore just beards and how they will look and what to do with the beard, people posting pictures with beards showing off.

Social media took this charity event and turned it into this seasonal madness that covers for racist and sexist acts.

EVERYONE CAN PARTICIPATE

Having a beard and being a beard enthusiast I join beard communities on the web and forums and one of the most frequent things said about no shave November is that we as bearded men can't participate since we already have beards.

Those kind of restrictions make you really wonder how a charity act has became boned to the beard to a point that people picture it as an event for shaved men strictly to grow beards for the month, this had made serious limits and rejected people that are perhaps interested in helping with the cancer issue.

You don't have to grow a beard to donate money if you want to help, just do it you don't need to show off and brag about it and join groups, this period is especially annoying for bearded men since everyone wants to be the new beard buddy.

NO SHAVE NOVEMBER CAN HARM SOME PEOPLE

Believe it or not what was supposed to be a call for help is now causing harm for some people, not everyone can grow a beard, and some grow patchy beards and some guys can have serious psychological damage being teased for not being able to grow a beard, and no shave November is becoming a hard time for them to deal with all the making fun of them and getting teased for not being able to grow a beard.

Women get teased too during this month as some guys use it as an excuse to be sexist and take for granted that it's a manly month when man can do what they want.

Cancer is a serious global issue, and people really do need help, let us keep it about cancer and do help, making fun of each other over who can grow the bigger beard and being sexist toward women is not the real reason for no shave November let us help not harm.

There are plenty of groups for guys to compete about beards and discuss those kind of things making a charity event into what we are seeing today is not doing harm to women or even guys who can't grow beards it's doing harm to the cancer patients who suffer in silence by taking away attention from this killer to a fun beard festival this is not about the bigger beard it's about cancer let's keep it that way.
