DOES BEARD WORSEN YOUR ACNE?

I actually heard a lot about growing a beard making the acne worst but is it true? On the other hand there are a lot of people saying the exact opposite thing about how shaving regularly makes acne worst.

I had my fair share of acne when growing up so I am going to speak of personal experience, I am no dermatologist and you should see one if you have a serious acne problem, but still even dermatologists can’t agree about what’s best for your acne growing a beard or shaving it.

I have started shaving a bit young(genetics gave me a beard way before my friends in school) so had the acne problem at young age too, but one thing for sure since at first I didn’t shave my beard like most kids do as soon as it appears I just let it grow, it wasn’t that thick or long but I kind of ignored it, it is when I started shaving it that I had a real acne way worst than before (I had acne breakouts like regular kids at puberty but not a real problem every once and then) but when I have started shaving it just took some serious proportions, first I did not had some good shaving equipments and since my dad had a beard no shaving cream nor tools were around the house, that made things worse, I did went to see a doctor that suggested to let the beard grow, and it did work just fine, I was shaving after that but once every while so I had really no serious issues with acne.
At my the twenties I have started having the same old acne problem I was shaving for work and yet It made it really worst and painful, I used a lot of products seen the dermatologist (not just one) but still every time I shaved was like hell in my face.

It’s when I took 2 weeks off from work and stopped shaving that my acne was getting better so I went to see my boss (I’m a customer consultant got to keep the big smile n smell nice and clean face you know the drill) and explained the situation, he was ok as long as it’s not bushy and too long like he said a young stylish looking beard.

I was not miraculously cured once I’ve started growing a beard I still had acne with the beard and this is what I actually want to be talking about because make no mistake if you do not take care of your beard it can make your acne way worst than the shaving.

So how do we deal with acne when growing a beard? And why acne is one more good reason to grow a beard?

First know that there are actually two kinds of acne the ingrown hair acne which you can get rid of by simply growing your beard, or the regular acne that’s related to oil problem.

what is acne, types of acne, how to get rid of acne and deal with acne scars, blackheads
and whiteheads, adult acne, what causes acne ...?

Those are the questions we are going to start with so we get to know acne and then we are going to share some pros of growing a beard when dealing with acne.

ACNE

WHAT IS ACNE

“Acne vulgaris” known as acne is an inflammation of the skin glands and follicles causing a skin disorder marked by pimples.

Acne can appear as inflammatory lesions, non-inflammatory lesions, or a mixture of both, affecting mostly the face.

Acne is known with areas of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and greasy skin and could result in scars.
Acne is most commonly noticed among teenagers especially boys, but it does also affect adults, adult acne is often more severe than it is for younger people.

TYPES OF ACNE

Non-inflammatory acne

Blackheads and whiteheads are good examples of non-inflammatory lesions also called comedones.

A comedone is a clogged hair follicle. Hair follicles called comedones when they are clogged with excess oil, dead skin cells and debris. Plenty of dissimilar impurities can get to the skin pores and cause a blockage to happen.

The clogged hair follicle will show as a whitehead or a blackhead. Also called pustules and papules, these lesions are known as papulopustular acne.

The severe form of the non-inflammatory type is called nodular acne.

Inflammatory acne

The inflammatory acne is when the pore is clogged and the immune system reacts by sending in white blood cells to fight the infection.

The area surrounding the pore is reddish and swollen and inflamed.

The Inflammatory acne is the rupture of hair follicle wall that leaks bacteria and oil to the surrounding area and the closer it is to the surface the smaller the breakout will be.

The immune system sending white blood cells to the area increases the blood flow making the acne painful and hot.

WHAT CAUSES ACNE

Hair follicles are connected to oil glands that secrete an oily substance (sebum) to lubricate the hair and skin which is why we often suggest that beard oil should be used. Sebum normally travels along the hair shafts and through the openings of the hair follicles onto the surface of your skin.

When your body produces an excess amount of sebum and dead skin cells, the two can build up in the hair follicles. They form a plug, If the clogged pore becomes infected with bacteria, inflammation results.

HOW TO GET RID OF ACNE

Multiple medications are used to treat acne such as Benzoyl peroxide, Retinoids, Antibiotics, Azelaic acid ..etc

But preventing the acne is far more inportant than treating it, people with greasy skin should exfoliate their skin more often, keeping a good personal hygiene is also important, cleaning the face with some skin care products for teenagers and people that get acne regularly, also note the a healthy life style always balances body fluids and keep the skin health,

ACNE SCARS

One of the biggest acne related problems and fears are the scars caused by irritated non traded acne.

People tend to treat blackheads and whiteheads at home by just squeezing them, which is a big mistake that could result in permanent scars on the face.

An acne no matter how small it may be should never be treated at home.

GROWING A BEARD TO HELP WITH ACNE

Now let is see how growing a beard will help out with the acne problem.

BEARD COVERS UP ACNE

the beard hair covers acne on your face

Acne can rally have some negative impact on people self-esteem  no one like to have some awful looking acne on his face, growing a beard saves the day and gives you a natural cover for your acne(it does more than cover as we bearded people agree it looks much better) .

NO MORE RAZOR OR CHEMICAL PRODUCTS

The razor makes your acne worst

As it was the case for me shaving was a real pain when I had acne that razor just went through my skin like flames burning, and using shaving cream and aftershave and all of that chemical products just made it unbearable When you’re constantly adding products and razors to your face, it throws the skin off balance.

Beard a natural filter for your face and keeps your acne away from stimulates that can irritate it or make it worst, it is said that even warm weather can make the problem worst, your beard kind of help with that and it acts like a filter for sun rays, pollen and dust if your face is irritated.

Now how to prevent your beard from making the problem worst?

Yes your beard as I pointed earlier if not taken care of can make things worse, but to be honest even without acne problems if you do not take good care of your beard it can cause severe facial problems in the skin which is very sensitive skin.

So how do I maintain a health beard that helps with my acne problem?

KEEP THE BEARD CLEAN

cleaning the beard helps with your acne

That’s a natural one and the first thing you have to do, notice that you need for that a beard shampoo not regular hair shampoo it is not advised to use your hair shampoo on your beard at all.

When you clean it make sure no traces of the shampoo stays on the beard and dry it well water in your beard can make things much worse.

USE BEARD OIL

beard oil makes the oils of the skin balanced

The beard oil helps regulate your skin oils and can actually help with the acne if a good oil, I use argan oil a real blessing works like a charm but any good quality product can help you since argan oil is hard to come by and is a bit expensive especially in its pure form.

COMB THE BEARD

You can’t go around with a bushy beard when you have acne make sure to comb it and do not use someone else tools it’s just shooting yourself in the face with a bacteria-bullet.

Combing the beard is essential to prevent hair from getting curly and touching your face back with the sharp ends that could irritate your skin.

When it comes to dealing and maintaining a health beard with acne it’s almost the same thing as when you have that itchy beard problem you can checkout an earlier post about itchy beard for more details and tips to keep a happy beard.

Don't let blackheads, whiteheads and pimples take over your life get rid of acne while maintaining the great look you want simply by growing your beard.

I personally from own experience suggest that you try growing a beard when dealing with an acne problem it did help me and many others since I have really been digging into this online and most people suggested the same thing that and 3 dermatologist I consulted back when I had the problem.
